I found the article and it’s even funnier/more depressing than you might think
the parents left him five notices to try and get him to leave, and finally took it to court because he claimed he couldn’t move out with less than six months notice.
on February 2, they gave him 14 days to move out
on February 13, they gave him a new deadline, 30 days later, to move out
on February 18, they gave him $1100 to help with the search for a new place, and left him a note with the following advice:
1) Organize the things you need for work and to manage an apartment. Note: You will need stuff at (redacted). You must arrange the date and time through your Father so he can set it up with the tenant. 2) Sell the other things you have that have any significant value, (e.g. stereo, some tools etc.). This is especially true for any weapons you may have. You need the money and will have no place for the stuff. 3) There are jobs available even for those with a poor work history like you. Get one – you have to work! 4) If you want help finding a place your Mother has offered to help you.“
it doesn’t say specifically that the aforementioned weapons were katanas, but look at him
on March 5 they reminded him that they’d set the new deadline as March 15 and left him a note saying that “So far we have seen no indication that you are preparing to leave.”
on March 30, more than two weeks after the second deadline they gave him, they gave him another notice offering to help pay for the repairs for his broken-down car to get it off their property
he STILL refused to leave, so they finally went to court to try and get him evicted
the guy represented himself in court and claimed, in court, that he “has never been expected to contribute to household expenses, or assisted with chores and the maintenance of the premises, and claims that this is simply a component of his living agreement”
the judge granted the eviction, saying that “I think the notice is sufficient” and the guy claims he’s going to appeal the case because he finds the ruling ridiculous.
as things currently stand, despite the ruling and the repeated requests his parents have been giving him since February, he now claims he’ll be able to leave by August
