letters-to-lgbt-kids:

My dear lgbt+ kids,

There are people who are attracted to two genders. For some, those two genders are the two binary ones: men and women.

“I am bi” can mean “I like men and women”. If a person says that, then it tells us something about them, it tells us that… well, they like men and women.

It does not somehow magically “prove that there are only two genders”.

It doesn’t even tell us if the person saying it believes so or not. (Hey, for all we know, they may not even be of a binary gender themself!)

“Bi means two, so clearly there are only two genders” is a pretty weird logic. There are people who are attracted to one gender, does that prove there is actually only one gender after all?

With all my love,

Your Tumblr Mom

The way I think of my bisexuality is that I’m attracted to all genders and don’t categorize to two but I take gender into account for my partners whereas pansexual is more broad and general attraction to people not their gender. I’m not saying gender is a make or break but for me I do consider it with the person themselves and feel closer to the bisexual identity.
